Proposal for Local Community Wetlands
Did you know the Hogsmill River is one of only 200 chalk streams in the world?
A precious habitat and one worth protecting!
Sadly, instead of crystal-clear and pure water, it suffers from regular pollution. Combined Sewers regularly discharge untreated sewage into the Hogsmill, and chemicals and other pollutants from our roads are washed in after rain.
Pollution like this can harm wildlife but also poses a public health risk.
With a partnered approach, we hope to improve this situation for people and wildlife. We propose to transform Chamber Mead into a fantastic wetland area to help filter and clean the water entering the Hogsmill from the Green Lanes Stream.
