Message From Jo Wright (Surrey Police, Office Manager, Epsom & Ewell)
It’s not all about the excitement and responding to emergency calls in this job (as fun as this can be).
A lot of what we do is behind the scenes, bringing offenders to justice, and protecting the vulnerable.
In Epsom and Ewell there are in the region of 300 current live investigations!
The majority of these are held by the guys and girls on the Neighbourhood Policing Team. These reports include:
58 x crimes linked to domestic abuse
21 x fraud offences
14 x drink/drug driving
3 x modern day slavery
22 x thefts
24 x violent crimes in public
5 x robberies
17 x burglaries
6 x assaults on police officers/staff
17 x harassment/stalking offences
14 x hate crimes
21 x drug offences
32 x sexual offences
13 x criminal damages
10 x vulnerable adults or children
And the list goes on!
Some of these will be fairly straightforward investigations. Others reports can be very complex and can take months to investigate!
So what does all this mean? Well crime in Epsom is down by just over 12% compared to this time last year. In fact, all main crime types are down. Please note there is no timeframe for these offences, just that they are under investigation. More complex crimes such as fraud, domestic abuse, or sexual offences are likely to be investigated for longer. Positive outcomes, which include convictions, are 13% for all crimes.
