The Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Cllr John Beckett was invited to the unveiling of the stucco panel in the Nonsuch Museum gallery. Tony Kerslake, Chairman of Friends of Nonsuch (FoN commissioned the panel) , Martin Biddle ,CBE,FBA, who undertook the excavation of the foundations of Nonsuch Palace in 1959 and Tim Crawley, the sculptor who made the replica panel also joined the Mayor.
The panels adorned the outside of King Henry VIII palace and over 700 of them were commissioned to decorate the outside walls of the Palace. Around half were 7ft by 3ft as this replica depicts. The Friends of Nonsuch also have a detailed model of the Palace at the museum and you can see the panels and can imagine what the palace must have looked like.
